What Causes Constipation?

I have problems having bowel movements.I have to use laxitives at least once a month. Tonight I broke down and gave myself an enama.It saids don t wait more than 15 min. I waited and waited and no urge.40 imutes later I tried to go, Not one drop of the liquid came out. I know something is very wrong. Why wont the liquid come out. HELP
