What Causes Contractions In Uterus?

I am 38 and have had 5 children my youngest is 10 months I breast feed and understand that that can cause contractions but I did not breast feed for 3 hours when today I got stressed and had a contraction I soaked in the tub and can actually see my uterus outline with the contraction. I am obese and had last 3 preemies I had a tubal and am 11 days late
