What Causes Cough And Stiffness In The Neck?

concerned for a friend...male age 77..sick since Nov. 11...started with cough...saw doctor after 10 days. got RX began to have extreme neck stiffness a couple days later...went to ER about 4 days later and had scans. found nothing. still has neck stiffness, extreme body aches, cannot get up or walk without assistance. swollen tongue. talking nonsense. previously was a strong independent intelligent man.

dear only depending on neck stiffness it is difficult to say what it is. most common cause for neck stiffness and are meningitis,subarnoid bleed, cervical spondylosis,strycnine poisoning, parkinsonism with stiffness etc.. please consult neurophysician he will examine and treat him accordingly.
