What Causes Cough With Running Nose And Watery Eyes?

My three year old has been coughing a lot and also has a runny nose and watery eyes. She is on advair and singulair and I have been giving her cough syrup but it;s not working. She does not have a fever and she is wheezing a little. Should I make her and appointment or take her to the ER?

Hi.... at this age of children cough and cold are 95 % of the times viral in origin. Usually the natural course of the illness will take 5 to 7 days to completely settle down. Unless the kid is having respiratory distress or breathlessness or inability to feed or very high grade fever or listlessness are very poor oral intake you need not worry. For cough you can give any of the over the counter cough suppressants which are licenced in your country like Promethazine or Dextrometharphone. Otherwise I suggest you seek medical attention.
