What Causes Cracks And Wounds In Mouth And Tongue?

I have a lot of wounds in my mouth. It gets cured and disappears but then appears somewhere else in my mouth mostly on my tongue. First I had a bump on the side of my tongue, then a canker, now a small wound (red) on the tip of my tongue (which hurts)+ a canker + some white patches on the front of my tongue (not painful) and cracks on one side of my tongue (not painful yet). what could they be?

Hi Dear,

Welcome to HCM.

Understanding your concern.

Thanks for your concern . The symptoms you mention in query are clearly indicating vitamin deficiency . Sometimes due to vitamin deficiency cuts and sore mouth occur the condition is known as chelitis , which further leads to occurrence of fungal infection and make things complicated. Due to deficiency aphthous stomatitis can also occur .

These condition will occur again and again until you fulfill the requirement of vitamins in body .

I would suggest you to :-

- Take multivitamin supplements for at least 15 days , specially vitamin B complex .

- Apply lidocaine gel on the sores to relieve pain.

- Do betadine rinses twice a day .

Do hydrogen peroxide rinses mix with equal amount of water 1-2 times a day , which is extremely good for cuts .

If condition persist after one week then consult oral pathologist for proper diagnosis and to rule out condition like oral herpes .

Doctor may prescribe hydrocortisone ointment or antibiotics .

Hope your concern has been resolved.

Best Wishes,
Dr. Harry Maheshwari
