What Causes Cramps And Late Periods When On Depo Shots?

I m on the Depo shot, and I ve been on it for about a year. Heavy cramping that hasn t happened previously, my period was 4 days late, and began this morning, was light, and already ended. I saw that a couple symptoms of pregnancy I had, but didn t have enough to concern myself. What should I do?

Hallow Dear,

Depo being a progestational preparation can delay the menses and reduce the menstrual bleeding; however, it does not cause pain during the menstruation.

Please get your pregnancy test performed on overnight morning first urine sample about a week after the expected date of menstruation; earlier it may report false negative results.

If you are not pregnant, please report to your Gynaecologist. You may have to shift from depo like pure progestational contraceptive to Combined pills.
