What Causes Cramps And Stomach Issues?

My seven year old daughter has had a couple of strange episodes with cramps this week in her left leg (causing her to limp with no apparent injury) and then this morning, she grabbed her chest and gasped saying she had a cramp in her chest. She did this twice. About 2 weeks ago, she had a week of strange stomach issues (somewhat viral in nature) but did not show any other symptoms of having a virus (fatigue, etc). She woke one night 4 times and had soaked through her clothes with accidents. This was very uncommon and since she had been having stomach issues during the week, we took her to the ER (as our insurance will not cover urgent care anymore - Tricare), and they tested for bladder/UTI. She was fine. I don t know if they are all related, but she has seemed fine otherwise. I m mostly concerned with the chest issue and that some of these symptoms are similar to symptoms I experienced with issues with Chiari Malformation Type 1. I had decompression surgery two years ago. I also had these very symptoms she is describing when I was child in the 80s, but of course there is no way of telling if they were Chiari related then. My parents were told I had a form of rheumatoid arthristis. My symptoms did reappear and worsen of course in my mid 30s and I had the surgery. I gave my daughter TUMs this mornign thinking chest pains are normally not worrisome with children, but we are very healthy eaters and she has never done this. I feel I should go pick her up from school and have her evaluated but I don t want to be jumping the gun persay. Thoughts?

Pediatrician, Pulmonology 's  Response
Hi,

I do not see anything serious going on with her symptoms currently.
But with the family history being positive - I would recommend getting her evaluated not for an intracranial space occupying lesion but - a connective tissue disorder.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Sumanth Amperayani, Pediatrician, Pulmonology
