What Causes Cramps In The Leg And Foot?

I am waking up every night with severe leg/foot cramps. I take vitamins, potassium, and drink plenty of water. It only started this year. I am not do any strenuous exercise. Sometimes my hands are also cramped. I am wondering what kind of doctor I need to see and what I might be suffering from.

Hello,

This condition is Nocturnal Cramps for which the actual cause is still not very clear.

But as my experience goes to the clinic where I practice, I have seen cases of a similar symptom present with calcium deficiency. Hence I would suggest you get your calcium levels checked.

The normal range of Blood Calcium is 8.5 to 10.2mg/dl. You can discuss the same with your physician and get it done.

Along with this, I advise my patients to have a diet added with almonds, hazelnut, cashew nut, fruits like mango, Kiwi, etc which are rich sources of Vitamin E and have found to be very useful in this condition.

Start the dietary changes for two months.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
