What Causes Delay In Menstruation After Taking Norethisterone Tablet?
I took Norethisterone for 4 days to delay my period, I got my period 3 days after I stop the medication (30 June), however, I have not got my period for this month, and it is already 5 days delayed. It is a side effect from the medication, is it something I need to be worried about? I am not pregnant. Please advice. Thank you.
Hi & Welcome. I can understand your concern for the delayed period. In addition to causing headache, breast tenderness, feeling tired, bloating, fluid retention & weight gain, other common side effects of Norethisterone include irregular periods, 'spotting', or delayed periods. These are attributable to the hormonal imbalance caused by Norethisterone. If you do not get period after one week, consult your treating doctor to rule out other causes of delayed period like stress, emotional disturbances, or some medical illness. Hope to have answered your query.
