What Causes Delay In Period?

Hi, I was on the patch birth control for two days and it slipped off. I didn t replace it and have been off it since. While on it my period started and it was abnormally heavy (had it two weeks prior). Since then it s been 4 1/2 weeks and I haven t gotten it again. During this time til now I ve been constipated, tired and overrating. Also have very tender nipples. I ve taken two pregnancy test, both negative. What else could be wrong?

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

In the current scenario, I would ask you to get a transvaginal sonogram to know the status of the pelvic organs and also if there is a pregnancy, locate the gestation sac and note the age of the pregnancy.

Later on, if pregnancy is excluded, I would also ask you get a complete hormone profile, especially the FSH, thyroid profile and serum Prolactin.

You could be in the perimenopause considering your age, and this may have resulted in the symptoms. Once confirmed, a period can be induced with hormone medication.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr Ivan R. Rommstein, General Surgeon
