emergency contraceptive pill contains only
progesterone that is used is used to prevent unwanted pregnancies from unprotected sexual intercourses. The emergency contraceptive pill should be taken sooner after unprotected sex, then it will be more effective for preventing pregnancy. If the pill is taken within 24 hours of intercourse, then its effectiveness will maximum.
As Morning after pill or emergency contraceptive pill contains progesterone, so it can introduce hormone in the body and your menstrual periods may be changed. Women using Morning after pill may experience lighter bleeding,
irregular periods or
spotting between periods. Some women may suffer from
amenorrhea or complete cessation of regular menstrual cycle.
Its other side effects are
muscle pain, leg cramps, increased appetite, weight gain, breast enlargement and tenderness, nausea, vomiting, stomach pain, dizziness, mood swings, fatigue etc. If these side effects persist for a long while or if they bother you, you should inform your doctor first for
medical help. Again, if you think that you might become pregnant, then do test for pregnancy 7 days after the next missed period.
