What Causes Depression And Crying After Starting Nuvaring?

Hi Mia,
I just started Nuvaring, i'm at the end of my second month. I have been very depressed lately, feeling useless and having no energy. And feeling mostly like crying all the time. I have never felt less than happy before, Is that normal? Will it go away or should I change my contraception?

Hi,

Birth control pills and coils/nuvaring can rarely cause mood swings. It is due to the action of estrogen contained in the ring.

You can consult a gynecologist and switch to other contraceptives like progesterone only pills which doesn’t have these side effects.
