What Causes Deranged B Natriuretic Peptide In Blood Test?

I m 57 female with history of Breast Cancer, Diabetic, type 2, Hypertension. I take medication for Diabetes, Hypertension, Chole. I m having a severe problem with my feet, very swollen and they are now brusing. I had some blood work.. B Natrieretic Peptide the results read 125(H), should I be concern with this results?

Hi, the high level of B natriuretic peptide is related to the existence of heart failure. There are several biochemical measurement methodologies of this peptide, each with different levels of reference. In the case you described, there is no way to know if 125 is high or not.

I believe that your doctor requested this examination to assess whether the swelling in your feet could be caused by heart failure. However, vascular complications, venous insufficiency, diabetes complications and even breast cancer can cause this swelling.

Therefore, it is important to talk to your doctor to clarify the results of this blood test and if it is really high, look for a cardiologist to investigate the cause of heart failure and organize treatment.
