What Causes Diarrhea After Taking Promethazine?

I was prescribed promethazine-dm syrup 5 miles by mouth nightly for an acute upper respiratory infection as well as the z pack antibiotic. The dr said I also have laryngitis and treachitis. I take 200 mg so serge alone every day for maybe 2 years now for anxiety and depression. Last night I took my first dose of promethazine and I felt terrible immediately very drowsy and like the medicine is too strong for me. Today I developed uncontrollable diarrhea and my system feels like it is emptying itself. I poured the promethazine down the toilet. Is it possible that I am having a bad reaction to the prometazine
