What Causes Diarrhea And Gas After Quitting Smoking?

I quit smoking about a month ago and switched to an e cigarette. I quit using that on July 1st. July 3rd I started to have loose movements, not entirely diarrhea but not normal. Have had gas, gas associated pain in my lower stomach area, but mostly just loose stool. I have only smoked for a little over a year but have fought this addiction for many years. Wondering if my body is just detoxing. I did see a doctor about 3 years ago for my GI and all was good internally and was a non smoker then.

Nicotine withdrawal. It is a paradox since nicotine activates the gut to be rumbling (vomiting and diarrhea with overdose). On the other hand, irritable bowel syndrome (present in at least 10% of people) will reliably get worse with quitting cigarettes.
