What Causes Diarrhea Mixed With Blood?

My Boyfriend has recently complained about sharp pains in his lower abdomen and when he uses the restroom its just diarrhea mixed with blood. It doesn't burn or hurt but its been the same thing for two days. He doesn't have health insurance so he is double worried about his problem. I think its just a hemorrhoid because he has a history of those however it's weird because of the pains he is having along with the bleeding. Could you possibly help us understand a little more about what this might be.

The symptoms seem to be related to Hemorrhoids.

Some advice that I can give to you is:
-Take over-the-counter option like Imodium drug.
-Take probiotic supplements.
-Add fiber to your diet slowly to avoid problems with gas.
-Use topical treatments.
-Apply an over-the-counter hemorrhoid cream or suppository containing hydrocortisone, or use pads containing witch hazel or a numbing agent.
-Soak regularly in a warm bath or sitz bath.
