68 year old man struck by car. Fracture of spine in two places and knee fracture. Drs are attempting to correct spinal fractures using a brace. He has a fractured pelvis. After 2 weeks has developed severe diarrhea five times/day explosive discharge of yellow liquid. Strong almost chemical smelling. Eats and drinks little

dear if he having spine fracture without spinal cord involvement it may be due to infection.

if spine fracture with cord involvement lead to reflexic hypertonic bowel will continue to empty when stimulated, but you will lose the control you normally had from your brain. With this type of injury, the message telling you the bowel is full is not received; the muscle controlling the opening and closing of the anus stays tight. When the bowel gets full it empties automatically.
