What Causes Diarrhea While Treating Ulcerative Colitis?

I have ulcerous colitis in remission. I am having a flare, although I am not sure. It feels more like the flu or a food reaction – I overdid dairy a couple of days ago. Is there a way to know which? I am having diarrhea, no fever, cramps, lack of appetite. Thoughts?

Hi.
Thanks for your query.
Noted your history of ulcerative colitis in remission.
But now you are having flare up, although you are not sure about it. You are feeling more of a stomach flu or reaction or intolerance to food. You over eat daily a few days ago. Complains only f diarrhea, there is no fever, no cramps no lack of appetite or so.
My thoughts:
This looks to be intolerance to dairy, as this is a known problem in ulcerative colitis. The proteins in the milk or milk products cause allergy.
I would advise you to wait and watch.
Have symptomatic treatment, take plenty of oral fluids, soft diet .
Avoid dairy products or for that matter any products with high protein contents as intestine to more vulnerable at this time to proteins.
Your past observation about the foods and beverages which enhance the problems and avoidance of these will help you the most.
If required a CT scan and Colonoscopy will help a lot.

I find this answer helpful
