Hi,I am Dr. Gopal Goel (Orthopaedic Surgeon). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Difficulty In Bending Legs While Suffering From ITBS And FAIS?
I have ITBS and FAIS, and degenerative disc disease. I am an athlete, lifting heavy weights and engaging in Taekwondo. I have had PT for this last year. My question is, I haven t been able to lean back when kneeling. In other words, I haven t been able to tuck my legs underneath me and sit back. Is this due to the ITBS or FAIS? And if it is or isn t, how can I regain flexibility in that area. I can easily do complete front splits, and am flexible in every range, but not bending my legs back.
Physical Therapist or Physiotherapist, Niraj Modi's Response
Sorry but it's too difficult to understand short forms. Here I realise itbs means ilio tibial band syndrome. In which usually due to inflammation of ilio tibial band the person will have in lateral aspect of thigh. Also hurt while turning the knee as well it can be on above or below the knee. Where it ends on tibia. The treatment is keeping It band on loose position iceing it and keeping the leg elevated. And with that trying to reduce inflammation followed by stretching it on a gradual way. Here should be taken care for overstretch because it may increase the pain again. Patient can also take physiotherapyultrasound treatment to reduce sprain from muscles. And for time being not to do any thing which hurts you. You also should take proper back strengthening exercise program for your back pain and it will also be helpful to reduce back damage on a ongoing basis in future. Take care.
