What Causes Difficulty In Controlling Bowels And Yellowish Stools?

My roommate is a 90 year old woman who has been having intestinal problems for at least 3 weeks. She has trouble controlling her bowels and her stools are somewhat yellowish in color. It is not an overstatement to say she spends several hours each day on the toilet. She went to her doctor two weeks ago, but has not received any response and has been told that he s evaluating her case. She was ill and on antibiotics at the end of April for a respiratory virus, but other than that, there have been no significant changes in her health, diet, or medications. Any suggestions?

Hi.
Thanks for your query.
Noted the history about your 90 year old room mate who has to sit for a long time on toilet sea, now has difficulty in controlling the stools and are yellow.
The causes may be:
Old age having the problem with bowel.
It is possible that there are fecoliths and whatever she is passing is the liqufied with mucus passing by the side.
I would advise her the following:
X-ray of the abdomen to see if there are fecoliths.
If present she needs proper evacuation, firstly by enema, soap-water enema and may be manual evacuation.
To take mild laxatives as advised by the Doctor.
To take multivitamins as the viral infection must have reduced her resistance power.
To have regular review as this may recur.
