What Causes Difficulty In Passing Stools?

HI, My daughter of 1.8 years old. She has recto vestibular fistula. It was corrected at age of 3 months, colostomy was done and while repair and got close when she was at 6 months. She still can t pass stools on her own. We need to give her enema (50 ml - 25 ml normal water and 25 ml glycerine) twice a week. These days she is not passing stools properly even after giving enema. Really need a suggestion. So much worried on this. Thanks

Pediatrician 's  Response
Hi,

This might suggest stenosis at the reconstruction site or impaired function of nerves supplying rectum and anal sphincter.

Kindly get back to your surgeon to see what is going on. Meanwhile, continue laxatives and include plenty of fibre rich items(vegetables, fruits, oats) and enough fluids in diet.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr. Muhammed Aslam TK
