What Causes Difficulty In Waking Up While Suffering From Hiatus Hernia?

Hi,
My grandpa is 79. Hiatus hernia. Vitamin b injections for pituitary removal. No medications.
Recently had the flu.
He had been experiencing episodes of not being able to wake himself up. At a certain point he feels as if he has passed out and wakes confused and lethargic and with no voice. He is now afraid to sleep and hasn't in 2 days.
ECG came back normal. Lungs clear. Blood work not back.

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Hiatus hernia may cause reflux of gastric contents into esophagus and burning sensation in the chest. It also cause aspiration of acids into trachea lead to cough.

Avoid spicy food and alcohol, avoid smoking and caffeine drinks.

Also check for serum electrolytes, urinary infection or hypoglycemia or hypothyroidism or meningitis or acute delirium etc.

Please consult your doctor he will examine and treat you accordingly.

Take care.
