What Causes Discharge Of Blood While Passing Stool?

My boyfriend used to bleed when he pooped. Its stopped for sometime, until now. This last time there was more blood than poop in the toilet and the toilet was all red from the blood. There was more blood than when I have my period. He doesn't have insurance. What could be wrong?
