What Causes Discomfort At The Neck?

So embarrassing, but I think I may have swallowed a penny or a dime. I bought an ice cream tonight through the drive thru and when I went to put the change in my purse, some of it fell on the ground, or so I thought. At the street light, I noticed a penny on top and took it out but not before having consumed about 3 bites of the hot fudge sundae. =S Now I can t tell if all the change is accounted for because I had other change in the front seat of the car. I feel a slight discomfort at the base of my neck but I am not sure if it s just my nerves or if there s really a coin there. Should I get an x-ray tonight or just see my doctor on Monday?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

In my opinion, you should visit an ER to get an X-ray as you have discomfort in the throat and you are not certain about ingesting the penny. An X-ray will clear your concern and ensure no further medical intervention is necessary of any kind.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Ayesha Shareef, General & Family Physician
