What Causes Discomfort In The Arms And Legs While On Lasix?

My friend on Lasix due to fluid in lung. She also was hospitalized for A Fib. She is taking 40 mg. of Lasix and experiencing arm & leg discomfort. She can hardly lift arms and can hardly get out of bed in the morning. What could she do to help her discomfort?

Hi;

Diuretics like Lasix (containing furosemide which is a potent one) increases water and potassium output. In some cases, it causes low potassium levels and this results with constipation, muscle weakness etc. Your patient must limit her salt intake, consume foods which are rich in potassium (banana etc.) and be careful about dehydration. If symptoms persists, a biochemical test must be performed for potassium levels and dose adjustion if necessarry.

Hope your friend recover soon
