Hi,I am Dr. Andrew Rynne (Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hello. I am an active healthy 66 year old male. I exercise daily, watch my diet, don t smoke and stopped drinking alcohol 4 years ago. I am in good physical shape and not overweight. I currently take propranolol 10 mg twice daily. My blood pressure averages 118/60 with a heart rate of 58. This was prescribed as a precaution to prevent varisces as I was treated then for HepC. I have been experiencing slight dizziness and a feeling of pressure on the right side of my head recently. I was treated 2 months ago for an inner ear infection because of similar symptoms. I saw my family physician last week and had an MRI which revealed a slow heartbeat at 56 bpm. He cut the medication to once a day. Which helps a bit, but I still have these symptoms. My doctor suggested that the dizziness may be a result of my slow heartbeat. What else would cause these symptoms?
Decreased heart beat can cause dizziness and abnormal sensations but there are other causes as well such as:(1) low blood pressure (2)abnormal rhythm of the heart beat eg skipping a beat (3)side effect of medication (4)infection (5)abnormal blood sugar (6)inner ear conditions such a BPPV, meniere's disease, vestibular neuronitis (7)dehydration or abnormal electrolytes (8)lesion in the brain
The ECG would have also looked at the rhythm of the heart
You may need to consider imaging of the brain eg CT or MRI or blood tests if these symptoms continue. Blood tests may include complete blood count, electrolyte levels.
I hope this helps
