What Causes Dizziness And Syncope When Trying To Stop Effexor?

I have tried to stop Effexor on a very slow tapering dose. I have neurocardiogenic syncope. When I am off the Effexor I have severe dizziness and syncope. Cardiologist said it has been used to treat this, off label, but without much success. How can you explain this?

Hello

These can be symptoms of effexor withdrawal.

Effexor can cause severe discontinuation symptoms in some cases even when stopped gradually.

I personally start my patients with fluoxetine who develop withdrawal signs. Fluoxetine is a long acting drug and decreases the intensity of withdrawals.

Also, drink plenty of fluids.
Kindly discuss this with your doctor.

Thanks.
