What Causes Dizzy Spells After Ablation Procedure To Wean Off Diltiazem?

Yes, thanks. I have very recently had an ablation procedure to get me off meds for PAF. They began to wean me off of diltiazem (1/2 dose) just a few weeks ago and my recheck is in about 4 weeks. I have been feeling very well and strong, but today I had a spell in the hardware store where I felt faint(dizzy) and smelled a chemical smell like benzene or toluene or lacquer thinner. Any ideas?

Hi,

For recurrent paroxsymal AF (PAF),extensive areas of ablation are required, and gaps in healed ablation areas necessitate a repeat procedure in 20–50% of patients.

Spell of dizziness may be due to another episode of AF or inhaling some obnoxous substances in hardware store itself. You may need to undergo resting ECG & longer-term recording employing Holter or event monitors to correlate symptoms with the cardiac rhythm.
