What Causes Drowsiness And Sleepiness?

It came on suddenly yesterday afternoon, thought it would be gone when I awoke this am. Still have symptoms, wondering if it s blood pressure or sugar level? Never had this before, walking around like I m intoxicated. Feel weird. When it hit me yesterday out of blue I wanted to lay down and sleep, but I couldn t, wasn t home, had to compose myself.

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Drowsiness or sleepiness may be due to consumption of centrally acting drugs like benzodiazepin or barbiturates. If you're associated fever or body pains then it may be due to viral fever with meningism or cerebral malaria or meningitis or electrolyte imbalance etc. Alcohol intoxication etc.. until examination is done it is difficult to say what it is. Please consult your physician he will examine and treat you accordingly.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
