What Causes Drowsiness, Fatigue And Appetite Loss While On Keppra?

My aunt is 76 years. old. No history of seizures. Recently within a mouth, had a mild stroke. Was sent to a neurologist. MRI done. The neurologist thought he saw something on the MRI. He put her on Keppra 500 mg X 2 daily. She is currently on two hypertension meds along with a blood thinner med. She is weak, drowsy, unsteady when walking, depressed, and has no appetite. I believe we should stop this medication. Your thoughts.

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

All of the symptoms that you have listed above (weakness, depression, dizziness and anorexia) are possibly side effects of keppra.
In my opinion she has to consult the neurologist for these symptoms. She can't stop keppra abruptly.
If the neurologist decides to discontinue keppra and replace it with another medicine, she has to withdraw it gradually.

Hope I have answered your query.

Let me know if I can assist you further.
