What Causes Dry And Scaly Skin?

Hi there. I am a 69 y/o male who has always had dry skin. I am told to drink more water, but I just don t. What I am wondering is...is my skin even more wrinkled because of the diuretic in my bp med I mentioned it to my Dr, but he just blew it off. Why do I need a diuretic for blood pressure anyway?.

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Diuretics affect your skin dryness.
Using a diuretic depends from the blood pressure values. Generally at the 69 year age diuretic is a first choice, especially if you also have heart failure or edema.
You can try not taking it or taking other antihypertensive medications instead of it. If yor blood pressure is well controlled by other medications , if you don't have heart failure and edema, you don't need to use diuretic.
Skin tends to become more dry with age.
You have to use liquid body cleansers that moisturise the skin, hydrating creams, and drink plenty of liquids.

Hope I have answered your query.
