What Causes Dry Mouth While On Oxybutynin?

I started Oxybutynin last Friday for bladder leakage. Horrible dry mouth next day, last 3 days whenever I try to eat I get nauseated, the chills, just generally feeling awful. I start to feel better and I try to eat and it starts all over again. Don t know if it s the flu or reaction to the medicine. I am a 66 year old woman with heart disease and high blood pressure. Thank you

Hi
Thanks for trusting healthcaremagic for your health issues.

Oxybutynin is anticholinergic drug, Which is responsible for dry mouth. May I know what dose and frequency of oxybutynin is started? If dryness of mouth is intolerable you can seek advice of treating doctor to reduce dose or frequency without compromising efficacy.
Otherwise take plenty of water or put some peppermint if dryness is not troublesome.

Regards
Dr. Hiren
