What Causes Dry Persistent Cough In A Heart Patient?
my father has heart failure, he has just had his left stents re-done after 13 years, this was successful they said. he is now waiting for a new procedure to drill the calcified right side....for many years he ha\s had a phlegm cough, he also has lung fibrosis.....over the last few weeks he has a dry persistent cough that seems to start each time he tries to talk, it is really distressing him, he is shattered and has a head ache from all this coughing, no-one seems to be able to do anything about it.
Understanding your concern. As per your query you have symptoms of dry persistent cough in a heart patient . It could be due to severe allergic reaction as well. Need not to worry. I would suggest you to start with course of antibiotics and anti-inflammatory drugs. You should avoid hot, sharp and spicy foods. Take your heart medicines properly. For now do warm saline rinses , take rest. I would suggest you to consult ENT specialist without any delay . Doctor may order blood test , throat swab test or virus culture test. You should get an x ray of the chest. Doctor may prescribe antibiotics amoxicillin at least for 10 days along with mucolytic agents. Go for complete blood count. Avoid giving cold beverages.
