Hi,I am Dr. Subhankar Chakraborty (Gastroenterologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Dull Pain And Protrusion Of The Belly Button?
I am a 41 yo male, overweight 5'6" 240". I have recently noticed that my normally innie belly button is starting to protrude. I have also noticed a consistant fullness feeling even though i havent eaten and there is a dull pain not consistant from my left side
Given your history of being overweight and the fact that your belly button is starting to protrude, it sounds like you have an umbilical hernia, which is a defect in one of the layers of the abdominal wall. This can be fixed via surgery, however I would suggest you lose as much weight as possible. I fix a lot of hernias as a surgeon, and I personally wouldn't fix yours until you lost weight, as the increased weight is likely what contributed to hernia formation in the first place, and if you continue to be overweight, the hernia will recur.
I'd recommend losing 30 lbs, then seeing a general surgeon about fixing your hernia.
I hope this answers your questions. Please feel free to contact me should you have any further questions.
