What Causes Edwards Disease In Babies?

hi there. i have a 2 and a half month old baby, when i was still pregnant i found out i had only one vein and one artery, i was told all through my pregnancy not to worry but now as i look through the edwards disease i see she is battling to breath through her nose and also she has not focused on me yet, is this some thing to worry about? those are the only symptoms she has, although they have tried doing a hearing test on her and cant get a reading cos the inside of her body is to noisey.

Pediatrician 's  Response
Hi,

Is your baby a diagnosed case of Edwards disease/syndrome? If yes then it has certain features like rocker bottom feet, overlapped fingers and also specific head shape, it has associated congenital defects particularly heart defects all these make the survival for these children very difficult. It is a genetic syndrome due to a defect in chromosome 18 called trisomy 18, no specific treatment only symptomatic treatment.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. SHEHLA USMAN, Pediatrician
