What Causes Elevated Levels Of Ferritin?

My lab work has been showing high ferritin, but the test for iron shows normal. I have been so tired because I don t get a full night s sleep. My blood tests for ferritin is getting higher and higher each times that I have had it. I have had 2 tests. One in May and another one in September. What could this be? Some type of blood disorder or what? I am very worried. Thanks Linda

High levels of ferritin can be indicative of an iron storage disorder such as hemochromatosis. In individuals with hereditary hemochromatosis, the daily absorption of iron from the intestines is greater than the amount needed to replace losses. Since the normal body cannot increase iron excretion, the absorbed iron accumulates in the body.
