I had a baby 8 weeks ago. I had complications with high blood pressure at delivery and elevated liver enzymes about a week after delivery - at which time I was hospitalized and given magnesium and BP meds. My enzymes started to decrease (from 120's down to 115) and my BP was controlled on the meds. At 6 week post pregnancy visit my OB said things look great (no blood work was done to check liver enzymes, he said since they saw a decrease enzymes would go back to normal and no need to "chase" them) but since I was still on BP meds he told me to make an apt. with PCP. My apt with PCP was at 7 weeks, 2 days post pregnancy, she did blood work and my liver enzymes were up (145 and in the 80's - AST/ALT), my BP is still up but this may be due to family history. I am VERY active, eat VERY well, had a perfect pregnancy and am already down to about 109 pounds (almost at my pre pregnancy weight of 104) I only gained about 28 pounds while pregnant. I exercsied throughout my pregnancy and was back at it just 2 weeks after my c-section. My question is WHY are my enzymes elevated? My PCP will recheck in 10 days but I'm freaking out and wondering what's going on? This was my 4th pregnancy, I had severe HELLP syndrome with my first (10 years ago) but not with my second or third and no proglonged liver issues. What's going on?
