What Causes Elevated Sugar Level In A Diabetic While On Insulin?
Dr, My wife is a diabetic patient and is under insuline dosage. For the past three years she was taking tablets for controling sugar. But last one week she has been administered to take insuline to control sugar level. Present sugar level is 310 (fasting).. Since she has started using insuline from the last week, will the sugar level go high and come down drastically? or will it take sometime to come to a controling level. Pl. advise Dr.
Hello welcome to HCM. I have read your question and understand your concerns. Sugar levels in diabetes will be fluctuated in cases of mental or physical stress, infection and in case where there is increased insulin requirements.
My advice to you is -
1 . Fasting 310 sugar levels are very high. So ask your doctor to readjust insulin dosage early. One option is to start LONGERACTING INSULIN at night which will control blood sugar levels for 24 hrs without causing low sugar levels. Fluctuations in sugar levels indicates she needs longer acting insulins.
2 . Please check whether she has any urinary infection or other infections are there or not.
3.Do her FBS, PP2BS AND HBA1c (3 monthly average blood sugar levels) every 3 monthly for adequate sugar control.
4.Strict diet control and regular daily walking is very Important for Longterm control of diabetes. Thank you. Have a nice day.
