What Causes Enlarged Heart In 3 Year Old?

my 3 yr old grnson was diagnosed w/enlarge heart. yesterday he had a sleep study on his breathing. doctor wants to remove his adneoids and tonsils.he is having a eco cardiogram next week. Why is this test being done. and what caused him to have an enlarge heart.

Welcome to HCM,
There are lot of causes of enlarged heart. Most common is cardiac problem related. But if heart shadow seemed big on chest xray, that sometimes can be normal due to xray being taken in expiration. But as I understand that you were told heart of your child is big, so its better to get an ECHO done to look if the size is actually big and if yes, then is there any structural problem in the heart. Do not worry, its best to get him evaluated, than to live with suspicion. Echo is a simple non invasive scanning.
