What Causes Excess Vaginal Bleeding With Large Clots?

Hello, I am a 35 year old female, I have always had heavy menstrual periods with horrible cramps, but just the last two I have been getting worse and heavier periods. I now have been on my period since november 15th. Lately I have been feeling more light-headed, the blood clots are about the size of a fist. Also I have been having problems with bleeding so much that I have to sit on a padded waterproof type of cloth. I bleed through any maxi pads I try (I was using Always Infinity- the heaviest ones but they now become too overfull of blood that it gets the pad completely soaked and my pants and underpants keep getting soaked) I have a horrible fullness type of feeling in my stomach. The blood is a light red, but the clots are like a cranberry color. I don t know what to do, I keep falling asleep and everytime I go to stand, blood just gushes out of me. What do I do? Please help me. TY!

Hallow Dear,

From your history and considering your age, it seems you are having tumour in the uterus (fibroid uterus). Fibroid uterus does cause heavy, irregular bleeding with extreme pain in abdomen. Due to heavy bleeding for some period, you have become anaemic and hence the bleeding has become cranberry coloured.

Please get your ultrasonography done for confirmation of the diagnosis. If fibroid is confirmed, you will have to undergo surgical removal of tumour/uterus.

Meanwhile, please start iron tablets and high protein diet to take care of the anaemia.

Please report to Gynaecologist ASAP.

Hope this gives you proper message.
