What Causes Excessive Saliva ,stiff Legs And Head?

My baby is one month old. He just woke from a sleep screaming. When I picked him up I noticed he had spit bubbles on his mouth and he seems to have excess saliva. Also when I picked him up he wanted to remain flat; he kept his legs stiff and was trying to hold his head back. Is this normal?
