What Causes Excessive Sleepiness While On Neurontin And Prazosin?

I was septic in Oct. due to a tooth. I was recently started (1 week ago) on Prazosin for PTSD & Neurontin 300 tid for nerve pain due to a neck injury. I am so tired. I am falling asleep at my desk by about 1 pm every day. And when I get home all I can do is sit. Thoughts? YYYY@YYYY

Hello,

Based on your present medications, Gabapentin (Neurontin) is known to have side effects like somnolence, dizziness and drowsiness.

You can take this medication during the evening so that during the peak in blood levels will coincide with your sleep and will lessen during the day.

You can also try taking a lower dose to lessen the side effect as optimized with your pain levels. If still not able to tolerate the medication, there is another choice in the name of Pregabalin (where a controlled release tablet is available) can be used which have a lesser side effect of those stated above.

But I still suggest going back for follow up with your doctor for possible dose adjustment of your medication for a more optimal quality of living.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
