What Causes Excessive Sweating After Total Hysterectomy?

Hi doctor, A am a 61 year old female, with a total hysterectomy 18 months ago. A few months after surgery, to this day, I came down with severe sweating . In the beginning the head and neck were very bad, not one stand of hair is left dry. Now the head and neck are as bad but it also went down on my arms, upper and lower body. I ve been prescribed Celexa , 1 month ago, increased recently from 10 to 20 mg, there is no change. I have no family life, no social life, hardly keeping my job because of this situation; the sweat is cascading down my face, into my eyes, going down on my back, getting into my underwear. If my arms are resting on a desk, when I lift them up there is a lot of water on the top of desk. I need help so badly. Thank you, Dorina

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi,

Your thryoid function needs to be investigated, if not done already. If these are normal, then most probably you have an overactive sympathetic nervous system which is not under one's control and can cause excessive sweating. Maybe it has been passed on genetically from your dad. It is difficult to suggest a remedy without identifying the underlying cause. You may try going to a specialist in general medicine for help.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Ivan R. Rommstein, General Surgeon
