What Causes Explosive Diarrhea?

loose, sometimes explosive poo every morning, regular as clockwork. I have had endoscopy last year and this revealed nothing. I have a good balanced fish and vegetarian diet, tend to eat late at night (snack attacks of dark chocolate, cereal figs, nuts etc) and a glass or two of red wine. I am 49 years old, 6ft 1, 13 stone, no medical history of illness of any type, otherwise in good health. No stomach pain of any type either. I am starting to take Aloe vera to try and see if this helps. Is there anything i should be worried about. I am going to cut out alcohol and late night snacking to see if this makes a difference. perhaps I eat too much?

Hi.
Thanks for your query.
Noted the history and understood the concerns.
Very specific history of loose explosive diarrhea at an exact time in the morning but otherwise normal history can be due to the following reasons:
This does not look to be a specific cause like colitis or so as other symptoms like pain and bloating would have developed.
I would advise you the following:
First of all change the snacks you are taking at night.
If this helps the cause is found and stopping the snacks that instigate or enhance the problems will solve your problems.
If this elimination does not help after a few days then it would be better to get the stool tests for three consecutive days and test of blood and urine too.
Ultrasonography of abdomen helps further and if required a Contrast Enhanced CT scan of the abdomen.
Increase fibers and Isabgol husk in low dosages to be taken in the morning may help you further.
Also avoid the foods and beverages that you suspect to cause the problems and stop these altogether. Even altering the wine quantity may help and see if stopping wine helps or not.
Consult a Gastroenterologist for clinical evaluation, examination and correlation with the reports of investigations to get an appropriate diagnosis and give you a proper management.
Control of stress and anxiety also helps a lot.
