What Causes External Pile Like Appearance After Hemorrhoidectomy?

Good morning, I have had a hemorrhoidectomy about 10 days ago for internal piles / tags. Its going well but I have what looks and feels like an external pile which I felt the next day after first BM. I have read this is just swelling is this correct ? I have havent had an external pile for over ten years which went away on its own. If it is just swelling how long roughly before I see it reduce in size ? Regards Adrian.
