Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Extreme Changes In Body Temperature Of A Hypothyroid Patient?
I keep having extreme changes in my temperature (not as in 101 degrees). One minute, I am extremely hot. A few minutes later, I am freezing. I am not the cold type, so putting on socks and wrapping up in a blanket is not normal for me. I have hypothyroidism, and I had my thyroid levels checked last Friday. According to the nurse, my levels are within the normal range. My doctor didn t seem overly concerned, but this is affecting my sleep cycle. I wake up often during the night--my hair moist with sweat or covered in chill bumps. Is there another test I need to consider?
I think you are taking a larger dosage of thyroid hormone such levothyroxine according to your symptoms. Hypothyroidism doesn't cause it but hyperthyroidism, taking more thyroid hormones than needed can cause you to explore fast heart rate, sweating which can cause you to feel the cold and lose weight too. Low thyroid levels can make you feel cold but not to lose weight but increase it.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Dr. Olgeta Xhufka, General & Family Physician
