What Causes Extreme Night Sweats Post Op Bowel Resection?

My 90 year old mother is 8 weeks post op bowel resection. Recovery has been very slow, but she is on the mend with some pain still on her upper right side radiating around to her back. She also is experiencing pain in her right upper leg, above the knee to her groin, but this pain is of a burning sensation. Not sure if these 3 symptoms are related. She takes tylenol every 4 hours. She is now experiencing night sweats and wakes up drenched. she's not warm when this happens and not running a temperature. The bed is so wet, we have to completely change the sheets and her pillow is saturated. Any ideas on these symptoms?

Hi,
Thanks for asking.
Based on your query, my opinion is as follows.
1. Radiating pain to back and burning pain to the knee and groin, points towards a possible vertebral compression cause.
2. X-ray or MRI of the lumbar spine is necessary to identify the location and degree of nerve compression between the vertebrae. At present, complete rest is essential.
3. Night sweats - could be due to tylenol as it has certain antipyretic effects. If there are no similar sweat during daytime, when she is lying down, then abscess formation or infections requires evaluation. Not sure, about the cause of bowel resection, if colonic cancers, then metastasis evaluation will be necessary.
4. Investigations like ultrasound, and MRI of lumbar spine necessary. Meet your doctor for investigations.
Hope it helps.
