Hi,I am Diwashish Biswas (Internal Medicine Specialist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My husband has been on the Fentanyl patch for a couple of years. He had a very bad accident and other drugs were not helping. Began on the lowest dose and gradually increased to 100mcg. We are now decreasing the dose and will hope to cease use of the patch within the next three or four months. He has peripheral neuropahy and now has the Medtronic spinal cord stimulator. The has helped tremendously. My question is for many months he remains extremely cold 24 hours, daily, regardless of summer or winter. His physical checkups, blood and urine, etc., remain excellent. I am wondering if the decrease in the mcg of the patch could be causing him to remain extremely cold 24 hrs. daily. I don t remember this being such a problem when we were increasing the mcg. Thank you.
I understand you have a question about Fentanyl and feeling cold. As far as I know fentanyl has no association with these symptoms. However, peripheral neuropathy can cause cold intolerance, especially in the hands and feet, and if that is where he is mostly cold, I would suspect this is the cause.
Other than this, there are some autoimmune, neurological, and thyroid causes of cold intolerance, but if his physical checkups and blood have been good, these would be less likely. I hope that helps and that the coldness is something that will pass soon.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
