What Causes Feeling Of Food Sitting In Stoamch With All Tests Being Normal?

MY SON SAYS HE FEELS LIKE FOOD IS SITTING IN HIS STOMACH, HE HAS HAD UPPER GI, BLOOD TEST, BREATH TEST FOR H-PYLORI. THEY HAVE BEEN NEGATIVE. ALSO HE HAD A GALL BLADDER ULTRASOUND AND HYDA SCAN WHICH WERE NEGATIVE. HE IS UP AND NOT ABLE TO SLEEP RIGHT NOW AT 11:30 PM OUR TIME, HE TRIED TO GO TO BED BUT COULDN'T SLEEP. ANY SUGGESTIONS.

Hello,

Feeling of food sitting in stomach is most indicative of some problem in transit of food through pylorus or small intestine or local problems like gastritis. Hence Ultrasonography and HIDA scan will be negative as already done.

Hence, I would advise him the following:

- Liquid diet only.

- To try a PPI like Omeprazole, Domperidone for motility regulation and see the results.

- If not effective better to go for a Barium study and an upper GI Endoscopy so that a proper diagnosis can be made and treated specifically.

- If there is a surgical cause he may need a corrective surgery.

Consult a Gastroenterologist, both surgical and medical for proper clinical evaluation, examination and proper diagnosis to have a proper management.
