What Causes Fever And Abdominal Pain In A Child?

My 4 year old son has been sick. Starting Sunday with fever, chills, abdominal pain, loss of appetite, etc. He saw his pediatrician on Tuesday who prescribed an antibiotic after a blood test showed low white blood cell count. My son had two episodes of vomitting on Wednesday and is now feeling a little better. I am wondering if I should take him back in to have his appendix checked.
